21st-Jul-2009 09:25 am - Bad news... or not

I found facebook... and I like it.

Simple, easy and efficient.

They have done a hell of a job in usability and I am very impressed.

The database behind it must be well setup!
1st-Jul-2009 09:18 am - Furlough fun or not...
Paladin
Well, it appears that I may just miss the current set of furlough fun.  They passed the budget last night, not one that many like, but a budget all the same.  It screws over many people and yet may not be as bad as it appears.  It could be better or worse.

Anyway, we'll see, won't we.
5th-Jun-2009 04:27 pm - Windows 7 and the the straw...
Paladin
I have taken the time to download the latest version of Windows 7 RC and give it a try.  I expected it to be like all previous version of Microsoft products.  A good interface with some updates and many ways to do everything.  Imagine my surprise to find that it has built in the words ideas of Microsoft Office 2007 and many ideas stolen directly from the MAC.

Now, don't get me wrong.  I like Office 2007, after getting the bad taste out of my mouth because of switching from the easy to use and friendly toolbar system and forcing everyone to gag down this new Tab system...  I hoped Microsoft would realize that most people hate it and wish it would go away, back to something that is user friendly...  Well obviously in proof that incompetence raises to the top, the backers of the difficult to use Tabular system have expanded their reach to other parts of the OS.  They now have the basic tools like Wordpad and MSPaint using this horrendous invention.

Well I could survive with that if there are no things that will stop my production...  Guess what, there is!  In their infinite wisdom, the interface genius of Microsoft has decided that users don't need the ability to move Toolbars in the OS to wherever they want them to be...   Hmmm, just realized that it's a Toolbar issue.  I guess I'm actually talking about the same issue in both instances.  In every version of Windows, you could drag a Toolbar full of useful shortcuts to any side of the window away from the start bar, then lock it there and have it autohide.  Amazingly enough that is no longer needed.  It looks like people will not be using shortcuts in the new Windows 7?  Not sure, but I wonder just how successful this new absense of features will be.

OK, enough ranting, but I have to admit, this makes me more and more thoughtful about switching to Linux.  It bothers me too though since I feel like I'm losing the system that I knew so well.
13th-Feb-2009 09:10 am - Thank you Verizon
Paladin
Back in 2005ish I moved into my house.  The first thing I noticed is that my cell reception SUCKED!!!

Not only did I not always have my phone ring, but I would just lose connections.  Talk, talk, talk silence...

Last night I noticed that my cell bars were about 50% to 75%.  So I walked around the house seeing where it would drop... because it would normally be only 25%...

Well it looks like Verizon finally noticed that I dropped lots and lost of calls and put up a new cell tower.

Their network finally came through.

You ask though why I kept them?  Well most cells would give the same reception.  I had a cell from work, so just figured it was a dead zone in the middle of Phoenix.

OK, I'm just happy in general.

I thought this may be of use to those out there who don't know what a Geek is.

The referenced article is done by coyote, a dangerous geek.  Trust me, check out the article and what it says about true geekness.

Ren Fest, here I come!

Last weekend was the beginning of much fun and enjoyment.  Saturday was beautiful and gave me hope that the rest of the weekend and beyond would end up so too.

Alas, it was not meant to be.  For at midnight, the start of the second half of that fateful weekend, it began to rain.  And rain.  And Rain.

Fortunately the morning gave a slight respite and I was able to get up and move around without much difficulty.  The day started fairly well, if a bit wet.  It got colder and wetter.  People came to the show.  They had much fun, but as time went by it became obvious that only the hearty would stay throughout the entire day.  I believe we ended up with a few hundred left by closing.

All the same, it was fun!!!

I love my shows, London Broiled are a great way to start the day.  Then the Nunnies and Zilch continue the entertainment bringing it to feverish pitch.  Throw in a bit of Tartanic, and it's plainly great!  I have the greatest stage at the Festival!  Oh and running over to make sure that the Green Man has his door opened to enter and leave every 30 minutes keeps me on my toes if not on my feet.

I hope Kiersten can keep up with the fun as well.  She's doing a good job working the stage over.

So weather for next weekend, Saturday, rain, Sunday, rain, Monday rain.

This will be a year to remember :)  I'm so excited!
7th-Jan-2009 09:51 am - Naked...
Paladin
I'm naked.

I just realized that I do not have my cell phone on me.

I forget the thing about once every year, and today is that day.

It was on the charger, and I got distracted this morning, grabbing the extra items, my vest, hat and, no phone.

So, don't bother calling me.  The phone is on but nobody is home.

So naked...... /burrrr

The Renaissance Festival for 2009 is about here!  I have some shoes on order, but am getting worried that they may not get here soon enough.

Last night I sat down watching some Netflix movies over my TiVo and cutting cloth.  I fixed my vest from last year... the darned shoulder flare thing had been made of a material that melts...  I removed it and replaced it with some cotton cloth.  It now looks good and I am taking it in to get approval.

I also wanted to see how to make another hat, so began cutting and cutting, then sewing.    Note...  Sew the middle pieces together last, not first!!!

OK, that was simple enough, what next?

Well class tonight and I'm beginning to get excited.  This will be a lot of fun, and I need the fun!

Enough for now

I was looking at my latest bills and came to a realization.

How on earth do credit card companies fail to make a profit?

Now don't get me wrong, but these companies are guaranteed 2% to 5% off the top.  Then as you pay, they get more, especially if you don't pay it off at once.  This means they start at a 2% profit and the profit goes up from there, as much as 100% or more over the life of the debt.  I'd like to think that my bank/credit card holder is smart enough not to give credit to a bad risk.  I'd like to think this, but I guess I don't.

I almost wonder if the credit card problem could be solved by making too much credit a bad thing.  Maybe if your credit card limit were set at 50% of what you make after taxes in a year.  That way your rating went down when you had too much open credit.  Of course this would hurt me badly, but still, I think it would help everyone in the long run.  Force everyone down to a manageable credit amount and keep this from happening again.

Just a thought...
